About Me

Hi, I’m Guiane (pronounced Guy-Ann), and I love helping parents teach their children at home!

I have over ten years of teaching and tutoring experience, and my passion for working with children started early—even when I was still a child myself. As a preteen, I volunteered to babysit and teach toddlers during Sunday School. By my teenage years, I was eagerly tutoring my neighbors’ 5- and 8-year-olds, driven by a deep love for teaching and helping children learn.

This lifelong passion led me to join Teach For America in 2011, launching my career as an elementary school teacher. Since then, I’ve taught students across the globe, including in Brooklyn, Thailand, North Carolina, Texas, Beijing, Korea, and Abu Dhabi.

While teaching in Abu Dhabi in 2017, I used the Read Write Inc. curriculum, which transformed my understanding of effective reading instruction. It piqued my curiosity about how children learn to read and inspired me to focus almost exclusively on literacy instruction. I became determined to learn which methods and strategies truly help students become confident, capable readers.

As I continued to deepen my expertise in reading instruction, I noticed a troubling pattern: parents were desperate to help their children, but they often lacked the skills to do so effectively. Many parents would ask me for extra support or seek private tutoring, but I realized that these efforts were often unsustainable and expensive. I saw an opportunity for greater impact—if I could teach parents how to deliver effective reading instruction themselves, their children could receive consistent, high-quality support at home.

In 2021, driven by this realization, I piloted a parent training program at a school in Brooklyn. I taught families the same strategies I used in the classroom, equipping them to teach reading confidently and effectively. The results were powerful—parents became skilled, empowered educators, and their children made significant reading gains.

Now - I continue this work, and I’m dedicated to helping parents develop their children’s literacy skills, knowing that strong reading skills today are the foundation for achieving their future dreams.
